Firewood FAQs

• Partially Seasoned: Some pieces are not ready to burn and need drying time before burning. 
• Seasoned: Air-dried, ready to burn. Some larger pieces may need to be left to dry.
• Kiln-dried: Dried in a kiln, ready to burn.

Please note:

• Firewood products are now available in pre-measured tote bags to ensure clean, dry, and accurate measurement.  
• Firewood pieces are 14-16 inches but can vary based on the type of wood. The pieces are quartered or halved, and depending on the supplier, actual piece sizes can vary. The wood may require some further splitting, depending on your preference.
• Due to the fluctuating wood market and the travel distance to log and haul firewood, pricing is subject to change without notice.
• Tote bags are loaded loose, not stacked, but equate to the proper "stacked" cord volume.

How is your firewood typically stacked?

Firewood is typically cut to 14" to 16" lengths. Widths and diameters will vary.

How do you sell your wood?

We sell firewood by the fraction of a cord in tote bags - 1/3 Cord, and 1/6 Cord.  Smaller quantities are available as Weekender and Backyarder tote bags. Please visit our firewood section for more details.  Need a larger volume of wood in bulk?  Please visit www.barkmulchdepo.ca for pricing.

What is a "facecord" of wood?

A facecord is just another term for 1/3 of a cord.

What is the difference between burning hardwood and softwood?

Generally, hardwood will burn hotter and for more extended periods. BTU ratings are traditionally used to compare the amount of energy released by burning a cord of any given wood species. Pine has a heat rating of approximately 15 BTUs. Douglas Fir is a hotter burning softwood, with 20.5 BTUs. BC Birch has a heat rating of up to 23.5 BTUs. BC Birch is a much denser wood; it burns slower, hotter and more prolonged.

Which woods spark or crackle?

Most softwoods like Pine, Cedar, and Douglas Fir crackle. Birch will not. Birch will generally burn cleaner and, therefore, is recommended for indoor fireplaces.

How much wood is in a weekender tote bag?

A weekender tote is 16''X16''x3'. It contains approximately 50 pieces of wood depending on the size of the split logs. It is the perfect amount of wood for a weekend fire and a great value compared to a gas station bag. Don't forget to return your tote bag. We will refill it and give you a 10$ credit towards your next purchase (not a cash-back).

Can I pick up firewood?

Please visit our sister company/pick up location at www.barkmulchdepot.ca located at 65 Commercial Drive by Calaway Park.   We do not load loose firewood into your vehicle, only into utility trailers or dump trucks. Alternatively you can handload the wood out of a totebag into the back of your car or SUV.

How is firewood delivered?

We deliver firewood in a pre-measured tote bag with a picker crane or moffett forklift.

Where can you place a tote bag of firewood?

We can place them on the driveway, parking pad or back alley. We cannot place it on city property, parks,  or vacant lot without written permission from landowner.
